I had My Favorite Things birthday party this past Saturday. Yes, I turned 39! (AGAIN) LOL I didn’t do the themed party the way that I have seen done on other blogs. I didn’t have people bring 3 or more of their favorite products. I invited my friends (who are all married) to come with their whole families. I asked my friends to bring their favorite food. It could be anything. I will share more of that on another post. However, I wanted to share with you this “SMASH”ing idea. Have you heard of Smash by K & Company? Well, I had quite a while back but I’m so behind on the whole scrapbook side of my life. I am really trying to get better! I always have a photobooth area set up for all of my parties. I provide the backdrop and tons of props so that people can take pictures with their phones or cameras. However, I always end up not having pictures of all my guests during my parties.
While at the SNAP conference this year, the amazing Tauni (the genius and sweet lady behind the most successful and fun conference) had a FujiFilm Instax mini camera. It’s like the old school Polaroid camera but in mini Instagram size. Tauni was taking pictures during the Pajama party one night. So I must give her the credit for planting this seed in my head!
So one of my FAVORITE things are the 80′s!! I just love the 80′s! I printed off some iconic 80′s props (found on Google images) to go along with my bin of props.
I created Actually, Madison and my nephew created a backdrop with a black twin sheet with splattered neon paint on it. I gave them 3 bottles of neon acrylic paint and told them to splatter on the sheet. They did an awesome job!! Of course I laid down plastic and was done outside….I ain’t cray cray! (You can see backdrop if you look at the Instax photos in my Smash book)
I laid out the Smash book with the Instax camera and lots of film. I also had a container full of washi tape, stickers and embellishments so that everyone could personalize their page. The Smash book comes with a pen on one side and glue stick on the other. This makes it so easy to use! I used my chalkboard and wrote out what I wanted everyone to do. Now, I have tons of pages full of pictures of my family, friends and random shots during the party! I LOVE it! I love that I have personal notes from everyone! I will cherish this forever and will do this for every party from here on out!!
My fellow party blogger buddy Nancy from A to Zebra Celebrations in the act of SMASHing.
I gave all of my female friends a bag full of a few of My favorite things….they each got a SMASH book! I Love the Instax camera and although they aren’t too expensive …it costs more than my budget can allow to give out to everyone…..this ain’t the Oprah show!
I will share more highlights of this party and other going ons….soon.
I don’t know about you but I update Instagram daily. If your on Instagram….click on my above Instagram link to follow.
